Welcome to the website for the Hiwassee Hiking Club. The Hiwassee Hiking club plans hikes in the southeast Tennessee region. This is an ideal hiking club for those who want to explore the area of the Southern Segment of the Cherokee National Forest and the Smokies and who are available on weekends. If you prefer weekday hikes you might check out the Sequoyah Hiking Club, www.sequoyahhikingclub.org or if you live closer to Cleveland, then you should check out the Cherokee Hiking Club, www.cherokeehikingclub.org.
The club meets the first Monday of each month for dinner at 6:30 PM. A planning meeting follows at 7:30 PM. During the warm months the club meets at the Lake Pavillion at the Athens Regional Park just off TN30 near the interstate. Everyone brings a covered dish or desert. Cold weather meetings are held at the Athens Diner with a treat yourself dinner at 6:30 and the meeting at 7:30 PM. You do not need to come to the dinner part of the meeting. You can just show up at the planning meeting at 7:30PM.
The club plans activities for no more than a month or two in advance, so check this web page frequently if you wish to join the club on their hikes. With the hike is a name and phone contact. Please let that person know in advance of your desire to come on the hike.
