Alum Cave Trail Dayhike
Saturday, June 14, 2008

Brief Description:   This is a Smokies classic hike from the US 441 trailhead to the top of Mount LeConte and back.

Post Trip Report: Four members took the hike up the Alum Cave Trail in the Smokies to the top of Mount LeConte. The weather started out perfect--cool and comfortable. At the top we met hikers from two other hiking clubs in the area. We were informed by some hikers that the peregrine falcons were mating the day before. We could hear their calls but we were unable to see them due to cloud cover. It rained on the way down the mountain forcing us to wear our raingear, but that didn't stop Jane from walking in the creek when we reached the bottom. Ron spotted a small bear observing us hiking down the trail. It left the area quickly when it saw Ron stopped to gaze back. We stopped for a nice dinner on the way home. Members on the hike were Jane Bohannon, Esther Nunley, Ryan Nunley, and Ron Nunley.
