September 20 - Saturday - John Muir Trail Hike. Meet at 9AM at the vacant lot at the intersection of US 411 and TN 30. Leader Ruth Gafford, 506-9623 and 745-5664
September 21 - Sunday - Athens Regional Park. Meet at the trailhead at 2:00 p.m. This is a joint hike with the City of Athens Parks and Recreation Department. Hike leader is Jane Bohannon.
Saturday, September 27 - Conasauga River Dayhike, 4.9 miles, Easy, This is a joint hike with the Cherokee Hiking Club. Contact Esther Nunley by 5PM on Friday if you wish to go, at 423-920-8660 by Friday 5 p.m. Day use fees are free this weekend in celebration of National Public Lands Day.

November 2008
November 1 - Cumberland Trail Rock Creek Segment-leaders Esther and Ron Nunley, 423-507-8817. We will hike 1.2 miles to the loop trail junction, take a .3 mile spur trail to the bluff that offers a panoramic view of Rock Creek gorge, and then continue to the loop trail for another 3.3 miles back to the trailhead. On the Cumberland Trail website the Tennessee Trails Association describes areas of the trail in the fall as "breathtaking" and talks of how hawks, eagles, and other birds are spotted in the gorge area. There are 3 footbridges over "gulches" along the trail route. The trail is moderate with one area moderate to strenuous as you climb the hill using switch backs. Once you have ascended the hill the rest of the trail is downhill through the gorge and back to the trailhead. If you plan to attend contact Esther at 507-8817. Bring a lunch and water. We will meet at 8:30 a.m. in the Belks Plaza parking lot.
